Rebuilding Confidence
What rebuilding confidence is, who it affects, and what a child should learn — a free entry from the Digital Guardians Threat Dictionary.
Target age range: Tweens and teens (roughly 11–17 years old)
Learning objective: Enable youth to restore self-confidence after negative online experiences by focusing on strengths, seeking support, and building resilience in safe, positive ways.
Threat definition
This module addresses the harm caused by digital harassment or repeated online negativity that erodes a child’s self-esteem. For example, persistent cyberbullying or public shaming can undermine a young person’s sense of worth. In short, the threat is losing confidence and feeling unsafe or ashamed because of hurtful online behavior or criticism.
WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY
Experts note that “cyberbullying affects a child's sense of identity, safety, and belonging,” and recovery must focus on “healing the emotional impact and rebuilding confidence”.
