Digital Guardians Safety System

Student Intervention

What student intervention is, who it affects, and what a child should learn — a free entry from the Digital Guardians Threat Dictionary.

Target age range: Preteens and teenagers (approximately 11–18 years old). This section is for students who are mature enough to understand digital dangers and can play an active role in protecting themselves and others online.

Learning objective: Students will learn how to safely intervene when they or their peers encounter online harm (such as cyberbullying, harassment, or dangerous content). They will understand effective bystander techniques and know how to support friends in distress while keeping themselves safe.

Threat definition

Student intervention refers to the actions that a child or teen can take to respond to peers’ unsafe or harmful online experiences. The “threats” here include bullying messages, hurtful rumors on social media, or a friend being targeted by predatory behavior. This topic defines how students can spot these problems early and step in (or report) to help stop the harm.
